Vendor Clinics
About once a month we invite an expert from the industry to come in and
do a “box lunch” seminar regarding the products we provide every day to
our customers. Past visits range from fire rated glazing products
to hardware suppliers to sheet membrane representatives. Some
seminars are provided in response to current or upcoming project needs
while others server to better inform our employees about current trends
in the glazing industry.
Internal Training
Walters & Wolf prides itself on being a leader in the use of
technology to enhance our processes. Because of that, we need to
continually update our employee’s skills with regard to those
technologies. Training is provided for our customized drafting
tools, automated takeoff and fabrication tools, Microsoft project, web
based data management tools, etc… Because of the custom nature of
these products, the training is taught by the employees most familiar
with these products. This training can be viewed over the internet
by other branches, recorded, and then made available to new employees at
a later date.
Here is a sample of some of the training curriculums for classes held
in our training center:
- Extruded products:
From ingot to finished material
- How to effectively
use your structural engineer
- Microsoft Project:
Effective planning for project managers
- Project close
out: Why the last 20 percent of your job does not have to be
80 percent of your labor.
- The automated
takeoff program: How to create metal and glass takeoffs using
your standard shop drawings
External Training
As a part of our commitment to our mission statement, employees are
encouraged to seek classes outside the company to enhance their
skills. Individuals can submit requests to the company to be
reimbursed for educational expenses related to their employment.
Project managers are encouraged to attend at least two trade shows per
year. Members of our drafting department have been sent to Autocad
University to enhance their skills and help them keep us on the cutting
edge of the newest technology. Information from these seminars and
classes can be uploaded to our company intranet for others to download
and read.
